Website...

Well haven't been here for some time now...This photo was taken today as I was scouting around this forest for some new locations to shoot...It is made of two exposures blended together to get details in the sky...
As you can imagine that was not easy task to do since the scene is not simple horizon, but a forest with a small opening to the sky...

Before I forget, you can now visit me on my new website - www.robertmaric.net
I created it myself and I would appreciate any feedback and critique.

Progress...

Well I already wrote a post about this but here I found some examples while cleaning up my files.
The subject was going back to the same place to shoot. When I compared those three images it was weird to see your own work from the same place in a 3-years span and how my style and understanding of landscape photography has changed. I also see how I progressed in post production, before I was all in that "artlimited" style with long exposure and high contrast black and white, but now I only shoot color, and preferably lots of it :)

The first one was shot in 2010. It was a cloudy twilight and I really liked those lines and textures, but I wasn't satisfied with the sky. It was blank and it made the image feel soft. I also got some creative criticism from a friend and a few other people, so after I realized it wasn't as good as I thought it was I kept going to that place. For some reason, it took me two years to get the right conditions, most of the time I went there the sky was crap (pardon me), other times I got there too late so I started forgetting about this composition.

The second one and the third were actually both taken in 2013, the blue one early this year and the red one a few weeks ago. For the blue one, I finally got there early and during the right weather. I was really happy with the capture, although I later realized that the sky is not that impressive. But hey, I really liked the gloomy ominous feel, and also how the light was falling on the rocks.

The final one was taken a few weeks back. It was raining all day, and even though usually I'm always ready to go shooting when it's raining, that day I wasn't planning to and also the forecast was rain all day, without any sun. But at one moment when I got home from a walk with my dog the sky opened, it was that moment when you are in doubt whether to go or to stay home. I quickly ran out of the car to leave my dog at home and to take my equipment and whoossh, off I was on the road trying to think of what's the closest place that is interesting enough. That location was not in my mind but it was on my way...When I saw that sky light up I knew it was only gonna last for half a minute. I stopped immediately at this well known place with an already well practiced composition, I snapped a few shots and I was back in the car going for the shot I had originally planned. Of course it was to late, the fire in the sky was over, even though there was some red and pink left, it wasn't even close to that before. When I got home I was disappointed because I took a good shot on the wrong location. But after browsing through files in Bridge I saw that there was potential in the shot. After post production I realized that it was not that bad after all. Now I love this shot, especially when I know that I was going to this place for 3 years and at the moment when I thought I outgrew it, I took the best photo of it.

Woah, I thought I was going to write a few words about it and here is a full page article :)
To make this story short (even though it's too late for that) my point is that you can never overshoot a place, there is always a way to shoot it better - whether because of weather conditions or composition.

"Pumpkins"
2013.
Taken on field near small village Hum.
Well this photo seems appropriate all do i am a bit late :) ... I'm in doubt on what theme should this blog be...whether to go with photography themed posts or to write about Istria and its locations...or to do both...I personally would like to write about photography and Istria but i don't know if that would be to confusing to the audience (if there is one)...On the last note, if there is one leave a comment on what would you like to hear more about...
Btw i have bunch of themes ready to post but I don't have much experience in writing so its a bit struggle for me to come up with interesting long text...

P.S. if you want me to visit your blog feel free to leave comment...I'm still noob to this blogging and i don't know where to look for other blogs...

Fairy Tale

"Fairy Tale"
2013.
One day while driving around Istra with my friend to find something worth shooting on our way home we were passing trough village Manjadvorci...
While passing by an old farm we saw a white horse standing in back yard, and we needed to take a look at this... Soon we found out that there was a bunch of animals all over that farm, as well a few more horses and each of them have its own house (which actually is old Istrian house)...The place was magical, we felt as we stumbled into a fairy tale...
We found out that owner of this turned his old family farm and houses into little animal shelter so that kids from school can visit and play with animals...If im not mistaking they are also a horse riding school...

On the subject of photograph itself, i was watching this horse the whole time , i really liked the contrast of old Istrian house and white horse...at one moment he entered the house which until then i thought people live in, then i was waiting for perfect moment until he showed himself at window and when he did i took i few shots and between them i liked those two...
